Tracing the journey of a heritage property through Romania's turbulent 20th century
Designed and built as a single-family residence for the Lischetti family — an Italian family settled in Bucharest. The villa reflects the elegant eclectic architecture of interwar Romania.
On 4 October 1941, the property was sold by Teresina Giovanni Lischetti to Elena Smigelschi. The transaction was notarized before the Ilfov Tribunal and is preserved in the Romanian State Archives.
Under Decree nr. 92/1950, the villa was confiscated by the communist state — one of thousands of properties nationalized abusively during the regime. The family fought for decades for its return.
By order of the Bucharest Tribunal, the property was restored to its rightful heirs in 1997. The court ruling — preserved in full — confirms clean, uncontested title. In 2000, the villa was acquired by its current owner and consolidation works began.
Full legal documentation available upon request, including the 1941 notarial deed and the 1995 restitution ruling.
